Sending off my first package of cake pops to a friend out in California for her birthday. Found memory boxes (intended for storing photos and the like) on sale at Michaels and thought they'd make for good, sturdy boxes for shipping cake pops and then for serving as a cake pop stand once received. Covered the lid with decorative paper and punched holes in it for the pops.
Then I attached floral foam to the bottom of the lid to provide cushioning for shipping and to secure the pops once inserted in the stand.
Here's how I hope the cake pops will look once re-assembled (fingers crossed) ... We shall see.
In the meantime, here are some close-ups...
Anxious to hear what state they're in when they arrive. And with that, I'm off to decorate more lids as I have many more to ship in the weeks to come. Until next time...

Playing Around with Pop Adornments
Took advantage of the left-over cake pops from my son's birthday to play around with some presentation ideas...
I found all sorts of packs of cloth flowers with little holes in the middle at Hobby Lobby. I have no idea what they are intended for, but I knew what I could use them for, so I bought a pack to experiment. They make for a cool design around a hole in a stand. You can also slide them up the stick to the base of the pop so that the pop is like the center of a flower. I did this and took a picture, but seem to have deleted it. Whoops. Anyway, here's a picture of 2 flowers together on the stand...
There are all sorts of cool stickers with clear backgrounds out there these days. If you do scrap booking sorts of crafts, you certainly know this, but it was news to me. Anyway, I thought they were cool, so bought some to make tags with, but turns out a lot of them are too big for tagging a cake pop.
In the meantime, all the white sticks in the birthday cake display were bugging me yesterday for some reason. (Maybe because the pops were too spread out) So I got to wondering what I could do to adorn sticks, and the idea of using these stickers came to me. I like the effect. (The one in the background has a sticker of a hanging ornament that extends along most of the stick, but you can't really tell in this picture...
Have also collected other goodies recently that I haven't had a chance to experiment with yet. Along the lines of a non cake pop item to throw into a display for interest and balance, I picked up some fun stuff in the floral dept of Hobby Lobby the other day at 50% off. I can't wait to play around with them! I figure the silver could go in one of my silver on white pops arrangements, the red with any red on white arrangement, the gold with gold on white, etc... (You get the idea)
I also picked up some more mini ornaments to tie into bows on the sticks and stickers to make tags with. I have a few ideas for using some of the ornaments in displays as well. We shall see.
And with that, I say to you, "a bientot"!

Birthday Pops
My son's birthday was Thursday, so I made him cake pops, of course, and piggy backed more display experimentation onto the effort.
I added a non cake pop insert ("Happy Birthday" signpost) to the display. I did this same sort of thing when I added the whimsical flowers and butterfly to the 60s-themed display. (See "Stands and Displays" post) I like the "offset" effect, but next time I'll raise such "flagship" pieces well above the pops so that it stands out more, adding more interest vs getting lost in the pops.
I lustered all the pops this time vs just a few, and the over-all effect was pretty stunning. And it made "chunky" sparkles look like jewels. Very cool.
I made the same sort of base as I did for the 60s-themed pops. I LOVED the covering! (Hand-made paper, as with the 60s base, with a stitched design) But as with the 60s display, the pops felt too spread out to me, or like they were missing a sense of cohesiveness. I've decided the stand is too big, at least for the sorts of displays I've been doing to date. So next time I will either make it smaller, or add some sort of border along the edges to pull the display in. I have some ideas about cool borders. We shall see.
I think part of the problem also was too many of the shorter pops. I think maybe it's best to have mostly middle-sized ones.
Here are a few other pops from the display...
